FastDrillMatrix (FDM) PDC Bits
Matrix Body PDC Technology for Superior Abrasion Resistance
The FastDrillMatrix (FDM) series combines the high-speed cutting performance of PDC technology with the superior erosion and abrasion resistance of a tungsten carbide matrix body. These bits are the preferred choice for drilling abrasive sandstones, interbedded formations, and other challenging lithologies where body erosion limits the life of conventional steel body PDC bits.

Abrasive Sandstone Drilling
The matrix body withstands severe erosion in quartzose sandstones and other highly abrasive formations that rapidly degrade steel body alternatives.
Interbedded Formations
Consistent performance through alternating soft and abrasive layers, maintaining cutting efficiency and body integrity across varying lithologies.
Geothermal Well Construction
Thermal stability of the matrix body and premium cutters enables reliable performance in the high-temperature environments of geothermal drilling.
Long Lateral Sections
Extended body life supports the long bit runs required to drill horizontal lateral sections in a single trip, improving well economics.

FastDrillMatrix (FDM): Where Abrasion Resistance Meets Cutting Speed
The FastDrillMatrix (FDM) series addresses one of the most common challenges in PDC bit drilling: body erosion in abrasive formations. While PDC cutters can maintain their cutting efficiency for extended periods, the bit body itself is often the limiting factor in abrasive formations like quartzose sandstones, where high-velocity drilling fluid laden with angular cuttings can rapidly erode a steel body, compromising cutter retention and hydraulic efficiency.
The FDM series solves this problem with a tungsten carbide matrix body that provides three to five times greater erosion resistance than conventional steel. This matrix is formed through an infiltration process that bonds tungsten carbide particles into a dense, hard composite material. The result is a bit body that maintains its designed profile and cutter pocket integrity even after extended exposure to the most abrasive drilling environments.
Each FastDrillMatrix bit incorporates natural diamond and thermally stable polycrystalline (TSP) diamond elements in the gauge area, providing an additional layer of protection against the severe abrasion that occurs at the gauge-formation interface. This gauge protection system is particularly important in directional and horizontal drilling, where the bit is frequently in contact with the formation along its full gauge length, creating conditions that rapidly wear conventional gauge protection systems.
